The old bathroom had a taupe colored vanity, bold striped curtain, crystal old-fashioned cabinet hardware, and lack of matching accessories. The walls lacked decoration. Hi Millionaire Tips! Thank you for stopping by and your kind comments. It’s contagious. Every time I start one room makeover, my wheels start spinning about the next one. Good hub. A friend and myself are planning a Redneck murder mystery dinner and this has some helpful information for our party! We are so excited and can’t wait to be utterly obnoxious! Thanks for the post! Some wonderfully talented friends came over and painted these branches for us in a nice metallic paint.

Your only option for floor heating specifically (not general basement heating) is to install ‘Radiant heating’. Fortunately, this is very easy to do over concrete and quite effective. Unfortunately it’s very expensive, like 5-7k for a 1,000 square foot finished basement area. I love that! That is amazing, taking an average old chair and making it part of a darling sitting area. Very creative! Keep it up!Basement Remodeling

Not only have the retail outlets kept pace by offering classes, manuals and more selections and styles that ever before, the media has also joined the ranks as the most prominent advocates for do-it-yourself-ers. Another valid point with this siding is that materials matter. Cheaper is not always better. You’re going to want a thick, quality vinyl siding that preferably with some form of insulation backing. If you’re going to do it you might as well do it right as you’ll be looking at it and reaping the benefits for quite a long time. So, follow me and let’s take a little journey that’ll hopefully put you on the fast track to getting that specific floor that will make your basement dreams come true.Basement RemodelingRead More

Top Six Mistakes People Make In Basement Remodeling Projects

Basement RemodelingHome remodeling can be a great investment. The eyebrow window is a pricey alternative to a regular window, however, the design benefits may outweigh the price obstacles. For many, the eyebrow window may offer the most inexpensive remodeling project for their home. Adding character and much needed interior light, the eyebrow window is often overlooked.Basement RemodelingBasement Remodeling

This is the cleanest and most time effective method since there is no actual rebuilding of the window opening or refinishing the interior. With this method, the exterior trim pieces (the brick molding and sill) are wrapped in a weatherproof vinyl or aluminum cladding and then sealed. A true Redneck measures the length of his fish he has just caught with beer cans, most places a 9 canner is a good catch.

They can be mounted on the wall, or stacked together. Poke holes in the ones with lids, and pull the yarn out the hole. Now the crafter can knit without being tangled up. Sewing pins and needles can be stored in mint cans. Wine racks and trash cans can be used to store fabric. Before long, the room is back in order…without any fatalities. New bedrooms are required to have direct access to the exterior by way of a properly sized window or door. Take advantage of existing doors or compliant windows when planning your room layouts.

Our kitchen remodeling project provided an opportunity to recycle the old kitchen cabinets into my new garage workshop. After a skilled and cooperative contractor removed and dismantled the cabinets, I positioned the cabinet carcasses along the back wall of my garage to make the most efficient layout. Your bathroom makeover looks great. And the fact that it was inexpensive makes it even more super! Great ideas here – I think it is time for my bathroom to get a makeover too.

When you like the look of wood but need some durability, laminates make a choice alternative as a basement flooring idea due to several reasons. But again, just like carpets, you’re going to want to make sure that you have done the prep work and installed some sort of subfloor to begin with before installing laminate flooring in a basement. The principal benefits of retrofit applications are cost effectiveness, time savings, and a less invasive installation. Frame and flange applications offer greater window unit integrity, larger product selection, and more options for various colors and finishes.… Read More

Basement RemodelingContractors’ estimates should include a number of basic factors such as moisture control. Insulation is also a must and it’s important to check for radon, a naturally occurring radioactive gas that is common in some parts of the US.

The vanity created a few more problems as it butted up against the tub – and, again, had been built to last. We were initially concerned we might have to refinish the outside of the tub as there were some marks left by removing the vanity, but after consulting our local hardware-store guru, we were able to apply a patching medium for a seamless finish.Basement Remodeling

Hi Sha! Thank you for sharing your story. That bathroom makeover sounds lovely. I too have always wanted to replace my existing bathroom door with a door with window panes. That sounds awesome. Recently I saw a local thrift store that sells salvaged doors and windows. It was packed the day I drove by, but it’s on my list of things to do this summer. I was thinking of doing some etched glass and creating a new pantry door and new bathroom door. I don’t know if I’ll have time.Basement Remodeling

I love buying items cheap and doing what I can with them. I really love old furniture. Whatever I can reuse I will use. I will redo an old cabinet, dresser or table. Oh, don’t get me wrong it’s not that I don’t believe in new at all. There are times when you have no choice to buy new. When appliances go out you’re better off to buy new their energy efficient. New appliances are energy efficient. New mattresses, I won’t buy them from yard sales.

The beer cans (in the picture) on the shelf hold a story of their own. My sister told me that it was a hunting promotional item that beer drinkers could try to obtain. There was one orange beer can per so many cases of beer. The lucky finder of the beer can also received a wall mount as a trophy. What a way to promote hunting season. I bet the Redneck were cheering! I could only imagine how much beer had to be drank to collect this many cans.… Read More

Unless you’re fortunate enough to have a walkout basement, where one or more walls are above-grade and can accommodate large windows and glazed doors, natural lighting is going to be limited in your basement to a handful of small windows. Fortunately, dropped or suspended ceilings, common in basements, can easily and attractively accommodate recessed can, track, and fluorescent troffer fixtures.

When it’s finished, stained concrete looks a little like marble, but more mottled and varegated and less uniform. It’s possible to make your own tint stain by mixing colors, or applying at dissimilar rates. When you stain a concrete floor, though, don’t expect the stain to be uniform or have an even tone. Plan your room décor and color scheme accordingly, because you’ll get dissimilar reactions from different areas of the concrete, and even a seasoned pro will be hard pressed to predict what the final result will be.

Ok, I digress, 1,100 square feet basement it is. I would roughly estimate it at about 2,000 to 2,500 for electrical – if you hire someone to run lines but you do the outlet installation. For plumbing a half bath, assuming you already have the rough-in in place and you don’t need to move it and no shower or tub – about a 1,000 (if you hire it out). You could cut both of these in half if you did them yourself. So maybe 3,500 all in, just for that specific work.Basement Remodeling

You may split your plan into smaller projects. Larger and complicated projects, like electrical wiring, plumbing or structural work may require help of professionals. But you can easily accomplish painting, hanging wallpaper, carpet or other flooring options. This’ll help minimize your costs dramatically. There is no dearth of local home improvement stores that offer weekend workshops for installing carpet, laying tile, and installing a vanity and many more. You may also enroll in any of them.… Read More

Most contractors realize that project scheduling changes as projects changes, especially with commercial projects, they just want to be kept in the loop so they can make sure they have an adequate amount of time to complete your project as well as their other clients. Maintaining the same footprint allows us to make some necessary, but largely cosmetic changes right now, and leave re-plumbing the room for the future.

Originally constructed to not serve as a living area, there are factors that you should look into first to be able to maximize functionality and comfort. It would be best to let your hired contractor or other qualified professionals evaluate the area first to know the extent of problems and the appropriate solutions to implement. Thank you. The noise transfer is not too bad. You can hear some sound from upstairs if you are in the area of our basement that is below the kitchen but nothing that is too distracting.Basement Remodeling

Carpeting is popular for basement flooring, accounting for 28% of basement flooring in the United States. One major advantage of carpeting is that it’s warmer than most flooring options. In addition to this, carpeting offers an extra level of soundproofing. I was hoping it would come together where everyone would enjoy reading it. I was having problems all night getting HP to load. As I get more pictures to go with the decorating tips, I will continue to add them to this hub.

Most companies will have some sort of estimate back with in a week, and will most likely want to meet with you again to explain the estimate. Some times you may decide to go with a professional design, and that can take another appointment. Do put furring on your walls: the floor isn’t the only place where moisture can seep into the basement. Apart from ensuring that there won’t be any water issues with your floor, install furring strips on the wall. This should give you about a half inch space between the moisture on the outside of the wall and the interior wall. We recommend a combination of ambient, task and accent lighting to help brighten things up and create a warm atmosphere. Inexpensive extra space. Remodeling your basement is an excellent way to make use of the space you already have. Basement RemodelingLet our experienced contractors create a beautiful, long-lasting, waterproof design for your Illinois & Missouri basement.

I am thinking of finishing my basement. I live in Lynn, MA and it is roughly 600sq feet in size. In order to save cost, I am only thinking of finishing about 450 – 500sq ft of the basement. I received one quote from a well known basement finishing company for about $28k for 500sq ft of space. I received another quote of about $24k for finishing 450 sq ft. In both estimates, the price includes materials and labor, permits, framing, electrical, walls (I am not using drywall, but removable panels), drop ceiling, lights, and flooring. It does not include paint and for the cheaper estimate, it does not include carpet leading down to the basement. I was quoted about $600-$800 extra for the carpert.Basement Remodeling

More and more people have started to work from their homes, and those who don’t end up taking their work papers to their homes to finish them. Having a peaceful area in the home that you could use when you need to concentrate would be pretty great, so you may think about the possibility to remodel your basement into a home office. You can decorate the basement in such modern and contemporary ways and you will have a place in the house that will increase your productivity and motivation.

Mind you, my grandparents did this without having to finance it. When the banks get involved they have rules of their own. Getting a mortgage is more difficult these days and I doubt any bank would finance a basement only” house. The way they look at it, they need to be able to sell it if you default (not that you would, but that’s how they look at it) and they would never be able to sell a basement with no house. Of course, I could be totally wrong but talk to mortgage specialists to see if your idea is going to work from that angle.Basement Remodeling

After doing some research on our product and seeing what we had to offer, they realized this was the perfect fit for their family’s lifestyle. Your basement is basically a box of porous concrete, buried in wet ground, and when that ground gets saturated with water, the resulting hydrostatic pressure pushes the water against the foundation walls. That water will eventually find its way into your basement, through cracks, the joint between walls and floors, as infiltrating the concrete through capillary action. To make matters worse, basements can also be flooded by plumbing leaks, broken water heater tanks and other water accidents. Without proper drainage, a reliable sump pump system, and proper dehumidification, no basement is dry enough to be finished.

Moisture is a big concern in basement remodeling. Any chronic leaks , condensation, or flooding must be fixed before you convert the space into a living area. Remedial measures cost anywhere from a few hundred dollars to thousands, effectively reducing your return on investment. But if you cut those corners, you’ll pay big time in musty smells, creeping mold , and soggy carpet.Basement Remodeling

Local planning departments usually have specific regulations on ceiling height, access doors, radon ventilation, waterproofing and other details of the basement remodeling process. Many building codes now require upgrades such as residential fire sprinklers for new construction or major remodeling projects. Ask about local requirements and get all required permits (or make sure the contractor does this). Depending on the location, permit costs can be next to nothing or extremely expensive; find out exactly what they are and include them in the project’s budget.Basement RemodelingRead More

Out of all the materials to replace the siding on your current home, these two are definitely the most striking. Not only does wood siding or fiber cement siding make a home look extraordinarily unique in these times where things keep getting more and more cookie-cutter, but they have the possibility of adding that needed value to your home overall. The real problem with this type of siding remains the overall cost of the project, and if you do select wood, the overall maintenance.

Acidic based stains have become a popular floor treatment throughout the decorative concrete industry due to their versatility, ascetics and cost. These stains are comprised of acid, water and metallic salts and come in a range of natural colors, which can be reduced and mixed to create works of art. The downside of these surfaces is that they need to be properly protected or maintained from abrasion, preventing premature failure.

If you have a stubborn stain or dirt on the floor use the neutral clean and soak the area for a while, if that doesn’t do it a citrus based degreaser may be used. Try to stay away from ammonia or harsh chemicals as these can effect the floor finish. If you do have to resort to a harsher chemical once you have removed the dirt, clean with the neutral cleaner and you may have to apply an additional coat of floor finish in that area.

Will you be glad your remodeled? It’s quite likely. The overwhelming majority of homeowners responding to the Report” said they had a greater desire to be at home since converting their basement to living area. Basement RemodelingPolyurethane foam, commonly called expanding foam insulation, is closed cell foam insulation with high r-value, durability, and ease of use. Expanding foam insulation comes in a slow rise formula for walls and cavities that require low pressure and a fast rise formula for large areas and holes. Fast rise expands 8 to 1. Polyurethane foam is water resistant and soundproof. Whether planning a new home, addition, remodeling, or just plugging the air leaks of an older home, expanding foam insulation is the hands on favorite.Basement Remodeling

I made a decorated one of these for my clothes pins. Don’t forget to jab holes in the bottom of this clothes pin carrier with an ice pick, for when you forget and leave it on the line when it rains. The clothespins don’t do well when they sit in the water for a couple of days and the holes in the bottom help drain them. Color can vary vastly from one shade to the next. Everything you could want to know about laminate flooring. From cost to care to potential health effects. I adapted the curtain we purchased for this bathroom makevoer by turning it to the side and sewing a deep hem across one side. It fit perfectly across the window rod. Drawbacks include the higher price tag compared to drywall and the inability of many systems to fit homes with lower-than-normal basement ceilings.
