hen you wish to contribute to the value of your home, upgrading or bathroom remodeling is perfect. When it comes to home enhancement tasks to include value to your home, bathroom remodelings are important. When you add the attractiveness of bathroom tile design to the mix you are on a victorying streak.

One-piece shower units consist of almost every necessary shower component — drain pan , shower walls, glass door, plumbing and fixtures — all in a prepackaged, self-contained unit. These may be good product options if you’re seeking to install a new shower in an area such as a basement, as the one-piece configuration may cut down on time spent preparing the installation site or replumbing existing drain or supply lines. But if the unit begins to leak water or deteriorate overall, you may need to replace the entire system rather than just one component.

The job of installing our wall-mounted fixtures was tougher than it had to be, thanks to poor and contradictory one-size-fits-all instructions, metric fittings and duplicate and missing mounting parts. Prevent hard-to-fix future problems by test-fitting the actual fixtures when roughing in framing, plumbing and blocking to make sure everything will work out. Then finish the walls. When test-fitting, simulate finished floor and wall surfaces to get the clearances right.

A vertical lighting on the side of the mirror projects the best result. Take note, not all fixtures of sidelights are perfect. So it is better to rely on certain basic fixture so that your vanity lighting will be very effective. A suggested fixture of lighting would be 75 to 80 inches above the floor so that would be around more than 6 feet in height. The ideal placing of lights in between must spread over a fixture that’s at least 24 inches long, a 150 watts lighting is ideal on this set up. This is to make sure to wash your face with bright light.

Finding a good and cost efficient contractor is no easy task. Most people recommend interviewing at least three. I recommend you call many more than that. When you tell them your plan at least half of them will decline to bid your job. I would also say that at least half of the remaining contractors will fail to pass your background and reference check. If you call at least 12 contractors you’ll probably find three to five from whom you can get full bids.… Read More

Cup hooks and under shelf wire baskets give me additional storage. My paper towel holder is an under shelf mount. I also have two stemware racks (on the shopping list above) mounted under one of the shelves allowing extra shelf space for more needed dishes. The sink has a direct connect to hose option in addition to the built in tank we’ve never used. Vintage H20? No thanks!

Because we needed to select everything in just one shopping trip (the day we had a babysitter!) to keep things easy, we also ordered the vanity from Home Depot. I did see it for a little less elsewhere though (including on ). Thanks for linking to Time Travel Thursday. I hope you’ll join the fun each week. For those who would like a more comfortable feel under their bare feet, hardwood floors are also a great option. Hardwood is not as durable as stone or ceramic tile, but continues to be a very popular material for kitchen floors. Great ideas and pictures of wainscoting. You have some great information. Wainscoting can make a dramatic effect on a room. Thankfully I don’t have to deal with this for myself on anyone in my family for that matter, but you did a good job, on this hub, Habee! Well done and very helpful!

Quite a few of those in Malta, especially in the craft village, although they’re somewhat more basic. Just a corrugated tin shell with some tables and display units inside. Some really cool digs here, though. Looking for a way to be more green? This is an excellent choice when it comes to being environmentally friendly, there are no chemicals needed, which means it’s also safer for your family. And, because there are so many designs and types of hanging pendant lights choose from, it’s important to consider the right hanging pendant light that works with your kitchen island.… Read More

I want to have a vintage, slightly industrial feel, while reusing as much as possible. We asked every carpenter that came to our house if it was possible to reuse the tile on our floor currently, and each time we were met with a firm ‘NO’. I feel so spoiled. Your ideas for making the most of a small space are practical and cute! Thank you for the inspiration.

When adding or renovating bath tub keep comfort in mind. There is nothing wrong with getting in an empty tub and testing it before you buy. Getting in the tub will let you know if there is enough room and also introduce you to its comfort level. Most tubs are 60-inches in length, which is usually suitable for residential bathrooms. With over 30 years of experience, our innovative process will transform your bathtub installed in as little as one day. This is my first visit to your lovely blog and am visitng from Between Naps on the Porch. I am next you (Home is Where the Heart is).

Make sure that you seal cracks in your home to eliminate infestation of bugs. All you need is simple caulk, which is applied around your windows, along baseboards and any other areas that could have small openings to the outside. Once the caulk is dry, there will be no bugs getting in nor well tempered air getting out. I hope this information is useful to all of you who look to hire a contractor to remodel a bathroom. Just make sure to ask questions and do your homework.

If your room doesn’t have a focal point, you can create one as described above or you might want to consider arranging your room with one of the following as your focal point. We’ve personally selected each one and would appreciate your feedback, in the form of voting on items, so we can offer you more styles you are looking for. Once the sink and appliances were in place, and the water to the kitchen turned on, it just left the wall tiles as a splash-back, which took two days, and the final finishing touches. Our trained professionals take care of it all from planning, designing, manufacturing, distribution, installation, and customer service.

Thanks for the post, and I agree how important good bathroom remodeling is because that’s the one place that everyone is going to use. so you want to make sure that it’s good. And I really liked the end product. One of the major influences over the small bathroom remodel cost you will have to bear is the type of layout you select. If the new layout will require you to do a lot of renovating, then your prices will go up significantly. Renovating includes taking down walls and putting up wall components like dividers.Read More

YAY! I am finally posting about our master bath remodel! I keep waiting, thinking I will finish up those last couple of projects for this room and then take the photos. But I just decided this weekend to take photos anyway! Get ready for an onslaught of photographs!

You put a lot of work into this. I was delighted to read about the different upcycling of furniture in your bathroom. Makes me want to go buy a farmhouse and do it up myself! Your husband will appreciate your ideas in the end, when the house is full of character (and storage space). Voted up & useful! Bathroom remodels can include everything from painting the walls to installing a brand new tub. On average, most homeowners will pay between $8,265 and $11,426 to remodel their existing bathrooms. Small bathrooms under 100 square feet will range from $3,000 to $5,000.

After you have written everything you wish or have created your design with the kitchen software meet with your architect and he or she will work in as many of these desires which are realistic in the design. Shop around for tile. You can find nice floor and wall tile for $1 to $2 per square foot. Use that less expensive tile for most of the work, and then incorporate luxury tile as accents.

Rugs are not supposed to float or fly except in fairy tale air space. Rugs that are too small are not only hazardously easy to trip on, they float in the middle of a floor, break up a room and are distracting. Before you decide on a size for a rug, use blue painters tape to outline where you want the rug to go. Tho different shades of blue and some details in bronze. I like it, but it is not my choice, it stays from previous owner.

If you decide to contrast, you can go with white walls (plus accessories which match or contrast with the fixtures), light walls against dark fixtures, or dark walls against light fixtures. The wall color can be a lighter or darker shade of the fixture color, or one which contrasts with or complements it. Great decorator’s tip about putting an objects like cardboard boxes in the space where you intend to put something more permanently. Thanks, I’m going to try before I get the next piece of furniture for my place!… Read More

This is the first in a short series of videos showing how to remodel a bathroom. This video shows how to remove everything from the bathroom (excluding the tub), to get ready for new flooring. Subsequent videos show how to install vinyl tiles with grout and how to install beadboard and a new faucet.

Some wonderful dark bathroom wall colors which work well with white or light fixtures are chocolate, black, deep purple, navy blue, hunter green, burgundy, crimson, and terracotta. Light colored or white accessories and towels will pop and look very sharp against the dark walls, or you can use contrasting or toning dark colors for a more subtle effect.

Follow Fig. B, for the new drain/vent plan. The new shower drain is vented separately into the main stack (Photos 10, 12 and 13). Most bathrooms have the main stack positioned directly behind the toilet. The wall-mounted toilet shown here cannot be positioned directly behind the stack because there’s not room for the necessary elbows. If your stack is more than 12 in. to the side of the existing toilet, you can keep the same location for the wall-hung toilet. But if it’s directly behind it, you’ll need to swap the sink and toilet locations like we did.

First, I can’t believe how amazingly beautiful you managed to make that space look spending only $7,000. If I was given that same space and budget, I’m not sure I could deliver a COMPLETE and functioning bathroom at all, let alone one that looks like I (easily) spent $25,000 (which, btw, is the minimum amount that anyone who knows what good stuff costs would guess your bath to have cost). So, my hat’s off to you for pulling this off!

Showerheads, toilets, and faucets have all become more water-efficient in recent years, thanks to the Environmental Protection Agency’s voluntary WaterSense program, which labels products that are 20 percent more efficient than federal standards. Our tests have found many WaterSense winners, including low-flow showerheads that deliver a satisfying pulse while meeting the flow rate of 2.5 gallons per minute. You can even have a rain showerhead these days that’s low-flow,” says Petrie.… Read More

The above figures place the bathroom update at $250 per square foot. This pricing structure assumes that carpenters charge an average of $70 per hour, electricians between $65 to $85 per hour, painters between $20 and $35 per hour and plumbers between $45 and $65 per hour.

Dana! I looks fantastic. I bet you can’t wait for you glass to get here. It makes me feel better that you took 12 weeks, as I am no where near getting done with my bathroom that I am doing! Can’t wait for when mine is as polished as yours! This bath is totally amazing, like everything that you do. The attention to detail is truly what makes this master bath stand out as a custom beauty. Not only have the retail outlets kept pace by offering classes, manuals and more selections and styles that ever before, the media has also joined the ranks as the most prominent advocates for do-it-yourself-ers.

I am moving soon, and look forward to decorating the bathroom. I had an apartment in Boston over a year ago that I made look real pretty, and I intend on doing the same when I move. I have some beachy accessories and plaques as a start, and can gradually shop for others to add to it. After that, I’d love to upcycle some old wood or metal to create shelving above the toilet and next to the sink. The plumbing towel racks are also definitely going in.

Nothing can add new functionality to a bathroom like new toilet , especially if your current setup features an outdated or inefficient model. While it may be tempting, changing the location of the toilet can incur more expense than it’s worth since it would take a significant amount of time and effort to plumb new sewer drain lines. Hello skye2day, Well, no. I’m not familiar with Ty. This was not a dream home, just a fixer-upper that I worked on for a couple of years. Mostly, I hired out the big work and did what I could like paint and clean and the yard work.

In the basement is an old cistern It was used to hold rainwater which was collected as it flowed from the roof through gutters and downspouts. We still have a trap door in the floor where a bucket could be lowered for ”fetchin’ a pail of water for warshin”. It is now just an empty concrete lined hole with a portion of the wall missing. Designing a room in your home that is practical and stylish is deceptively difficult if it’s not what you do for a living; so to have photographs to use as references along the way can really help. I hope you find enough ideas here to help you decide exactly what you want.Read More

When I decided to buy a house for resale, I broke all the rules the real estate professionals tell you about on the infomercials. That turned out to be a costly decision.

Once the glass is scored place a piece of wood under the glass just in front of the scored line and give the far end of the glass a light but firm push with your hand, at which point the glass should snap cleanly along the scored line. You’ll be amazed by what you see. No high-pressure, no obligation to buy anything. Just professional design experts to help you create the bathroom of your dreams. There’s no need to restrict yourself to IKEA products when trying to recreate a look. Often you may have to make compromises based on the money, skill or materials you have available, but you may come up with a solution that you like even better than the original catalog picture!

The curtains on the back Eric are even worse & you should see the inside. I can’t believe they let someone do this. I may have read it was a $3 million home but I would have to check back on that!! Still I wouldn’t pass it up if I should win it! IKEA keeps discontinued door styles available for 2 years after they have been discontinued as part of the after sales service. However, our plumber suggested installing a plinth radiator to utilise spare space under a kitchen base unit; which would free up space on the wall where we wanted to put the new back door. Changing the knobs/handles on a piece of furniture is a quick and creative revamp that anyone could try.

With you doing much of the work yourself will not only save you lots of money but it will also give you the satisfaction of ‘I did that’. Decorating with porcelain plates only makes sense in a kitchen. The motifs are almost endless although flowers seems to have a massive following. I have three porcelain plates that have an orchid motif that matches my kitchen exceptionally well. The main item here is to match your motif and your color scheme.

New Faucets- This is especially important if your bathroom has contractor grade faucets. New, higher quality faucets will be remembered by buyers. In my bathroom remodel I used an oil-rubbed bronze faucet that I purchased online very inexpensively. There are 5 Elements to consider when trying to achieve good Feng Shui: Water, Earth, Wood, Fire, and Metal. Each major appliance and major piece of furniture in the kitchen is considered one of these elements. Thanks so much, ‘Bonds. To say I’m in love is an understatement. As I mentioned in my first post , this was actually completed 2 years ago, and I can say today that I walk in every morning and still love it. Maybe living in an ugly, unfinished bathroom for 3 years has that effect!

Idea 9: For kitchens without islands, you still can use hanging pendant lights in other areas, such as over a breakfast a nook or pantry area. Or, try a hanging pendant light over your kitchen sink, in front of a kitchen window or over a dining server. Natural materials are the in” thing for walls and floors. Think glass tiles, marble, and quarried stone tiles. Mosaics and medallions add a lot of interest to floors and walls, especially around sinks, tubs, showers, and vanities. My husband and I moving out west and are very interested in putting up a Quonset hut. How did your experience go? we remodel our 100 year old home so I think we are up for the challenge. It’s hard to find useful info. I’m curious how you insulated the walls and roof. Pulling together all these little design elements and paying attention to details will give your kitchen island area style and impact for years to come.

Removing the old radiator and installing the new plinth radiator in order to free-up the wall for the new back door meant we had to rip-up the old wood laminate floor in the dining room so that the plumber (heating engineer) could have access to the water pipes under the floorboards. If your bed set seems old and you want to try something really new, build your own new bed set. Although this can be difficult, by being patient and working hard, it is possible to create truly beautiful furniture that is customized for your personal tastes. Glass block can wall off a shower area for privacy. While you take a shower, its patterns obscure your form from others while still allowing light to penetrate into the stall and more natural light into the room. If your bathroom features a window near the shower area, glass block is a great way to provide privacy and natural light. Laminate wood floors are more popular than ever, they look good, they are fairly inexpensive and they are easy to maintain. If you have or are thinking about installing new flooring, you will want to find out how to clean them that will preserve them and keep them looking new!

After this, a remodel administrative assistant will contact you to schedule a free in-home estimate, and will serve as your guide throughout the process from this point forward. The bathroom looks so spacious and so beautifully organized with such helpful tips one can be most successful in making the difference in bathrooms. Being able to go through each day’s job or business hours is enough stress for our bodies and the calming effect of a spa treatment is what we all need after all.

A bath caddy sits across the bath. While plastic caddies soon tend to look worn, bamboo has recently become a popular alternative and looks smart and clean. A bath caddy is handy for the soap and your face cloth. Some are large enough to store toys. Often caddies are extendable so you can vary the size to fit your bath. A new tub was installed along with the His and Hers vanities. And a taller half wall was built between the shower and tub.

There are several reasons a client may decide to remodel a bathroom. The most common are a desire to upgrade the fixtures in the room, to fix leaks and water damage, and to increase or reconfigure the room’s floorplan. Haha, I thought this was going to be a craft hub! My partner and I actually re-did our bathroom counter top with glass beads from the dollar store. Looks great! In addition, the walls of the hallway were frequently scuffed and the flat wall paint resisted a good clean up. Painting with a semi-gloss paint on such a large span of wall wouldn’t have added to the appeal.

If your bath remodelling project is on a limited budget hiring someone to open the wall and restore it while also hooking up the plumbing may be out of reach, but the retrofit shower panel may not be. Or if you are handy at home repair, you may able to modify the hookups similar to what was done here. Excellent suggestions! We are dealing with this with my parents now. Sometimes, the most difficult part is getting them to agree to the bathroom modifications.Read More
