Make sure you can get hold of a contractor when you need him or her. Be cautious of businesses that list only a post office box address but no street address or that use an answering service. Don’t hire unsolicited, door-to-door contractors or those who can’t prove their qualifications. Never hire a contractor that insists you pay cash up front. DIY Cheap Kitchen Remodel (2)

Hellooo friends. After seven months of hard work, a few DIY projects, lots of design work and hours and hours of tiling, we’re finally done with the Master Bathroom and here to show off the final photos and sourcing details.

You can coordinate the colors of your plants with the color scheme in your bathroom. Phoenix bathroom remodeling designers also say that you can place plants in beautiful vases which serve as decorative pieces as well. For an interesting twist, you can place plants in toothbrush holders and other everyday bathroom accessories that wouldn’t normally serve as plant containers.

It can be done, but it’s not recommended, especially for walls. Cultured marble just isn’t a good substrate for ceramic tile – it’s not totally stable, and cultured marble is non-porous, so it’s difficult for the mastic to stick to it and dry thoroughly. If you want to avoid tearing out the cultured marble, you could cover it with a cement-based tile backer board, making sure the board is screwed all the way through the cultured marble and into the studs. Another possibility is to screw the cultured marble to studs to stabilize it, and rough up the surface using a belt sander with a 40-grit belt before applying mastic and tile. However, that’s the riskiest option.

The cabinets were connected to each other by a shelf over the window. The built-in look was completed with the addition of a window seat that joined the two cupboards across their bottoms. A drawer was added under the window seat to match the drawers in each of the now-connected chests, and quarter-round was added as trim around each of the three drawers. Then the whole piece was re-finished in a lovely light oak color.

A bathroom vanity can be one of the most important fixtures in a bathroom, aside from perhaps installing the proper wireless thermostat Choosing the right bathroom vanity for your needs can seem quite a chore, as there are a wide variety of discount bathroom vanities on the market today. One of the most important things to consider when purchasing a new bathroom vanity is the size of the bathroom. Depending on how much space you have in your bathroom, you may opt for a single or a double vanity.Read More

Tips For Using Plants In Bathrooms

I also like to think of myself as a professional amateur interior designer and furniture expert. I’m quite handy around the house, as it turns out.

Once the openings in the bedrooms walls were made I put joists across the opening and fitted a solid wood base to the top of the joists. I then made stud walls on either side an in the middle of the opening, facing the stud walls with plasterboard; the middle stud wall dividing the opening into two equal storage spaces (one for each bedroom) being insulated and sound proofed.

I am a decorating mistake. I always have clutter. I admire people who can put only a few things on a shelf. I always have them crammed full. But I hate white walls. Who came up with that idea? And sickly greens. I love color and if I actually owned a house it would be painted with cheerful colors. My RV has lots of blue in it and it is very peaceful.

Consider the space that you have in your bathroom. Most bathrooms are on the smaller side so adding a large, space hogging tree might be out of the question. Instead, you can place smaller plants in corners, on counter tops, on the toilet tank, or on windowsills-places where they won’t take up much space or get in the way. Hanging plants is also a good option.

No matter what your budget, and no matter what you’re looking for, you can get the bathroom remodel you’ve always wanted with The Home Depot. Bathroom remodeling can be very exciting. 2016 Bathroom Remodel Cost Guide (2)

Here is the original mold damage. (Barf.) Luckily, it’s all been remedied and rebuilt. The whole space is now framed out with new plumbing and electrical lines.

Most kitchen designs are lacking in storage – and especially in usable and convenient storage. Take your storage options up a notch and add a section for more drawers. Just one thing to keep in mind… open the package and check your mirror before leaving the store. We had to exchange this one because the first one came with a chip. This is the second time that’s happened to me with a Home Depot mirror.

I really debated whether or not to paint the pine planked ceiling. I actually like the look of the raw pine, but it didn’t match the other wood in the house, so I decided to go with my gut and paint it white. And I’m so happy I did. There’s nothing like white to brighten and make a room appear bigger than it is. My hubs was not about to tear out our beautiful sheetrock, so I was left to find a tub that would have to fit.

Captain Chair Updates- The seats, although comfortable had a lot of wear. I would have to figure out the options; seat covers, slipcovers or new seats? This turned out more challenging than I anticipated. I am mostly curious about the way colors make you feel. I love dark tones, and the dark blue bahtroom gives me a feel of quiet and peaceful time alone… Angel Blessed!

The old mirror was re-silvered and the old, original hardware refurbished, and the floor was touched up and buffed to remove any signs of wear or damage form the remodeling. Tub surrounds are a great way to improve the visual appeal of your bathroom. Many times, the bathtub itself is fine – it’s the surrounding tile that makes it appear old and dated. A beautiful new tub surround can breathe new life into an old bathtub!Read More

$20,000 For A Home Remodel, What Would You Spend It On?

First up are the new fixtures. We replaced all the cheap, builder grade, fixtures with these beautiful. oil rubbed bronze pieces. What a difference that made. Now I want a granite sink but that’s for another post. Because this room is mainly used by my tween daughter it needed a little glam. I found this pewter framed mirror at Kirklands for $29.99! Bonus Buy! It was on sale. Then I found this little silver dish that reminded me of the beach. I don’t know why, but it did. I found it at Ross for $3.49. I also found a pair of bath rugs in a cream and pale blue stripe for $6.99 at Ross. They were on clearance. I’m a bargain hunter when it comes to home goods. I’m a bargain hunter when it comes to everything I suppose.

I based all of my estimates a 5- by 8-foot bathroom. In fact, this bathroom remodel scenario is the first thing I typically discuss with a contractor when I’m trying to determine if I want to actually take the time to have them bid a project. If a contractor tells me this work is going to cost $10,000, then I move on to the next contractor. A glass block window, albeit one that distorts images, may not feel private enough. Consider a second shower curtain rod fitted with a short matching shower curtain for more shower privacy. When it comes to remodeling the home, the kitchen is usually one at the top of the list. Learn how to budget for a kitchen remodel.

Good lens. Thanks. I used to have an IKEA kitchen a while back, and they came a long way in the last fifteen years. The quality and the design have improved dramatically. It took four days to lay and grout the new floor tiles and one day to install the kitchen base units. The kitchen units we chose was the usual 18mm chipboard for the caucus (MDF strut supports for added strength where desirable) with solid oak doors and drawers, drawers base and sides being solid metal rather than flimsy wood.

Really insightful. I have a focal point, which happens to be the stylish cabinet, but I never knew it was called a focal point just some natural instinct that something has to stand out and be the centre of focus in my home. I have learnt a lot from this lens. Thank you! You can also consider adding a counter top to a dresser to turn it into an island. This will give you additional counter space as well as storage space. Don’t use large tiles in assymetrical rooms… the weirdness of the asymmetry is enhanced by multiple times!

Collins since 1985, Dun-Rite is exactly what you’re looking for in a quality, reliable and fairly-priced kitchen and bath renovation company that you can totally trust. This variety has an aesthetically-pleasing gray look to it. Like granite, it is a natural stone and with similar functionality. Soapstone is … Read More

Home Improvement I Love Bathroom Cabinets

Bathrooms are no longer just an afterthought for modern homeowners. Today’s bathrooms are often beautiful, with user-friendly sinks, bathtubs, and showers. Outdated and obsolete bathroom fixtures are being replaced with chic and efficient new designs, making for the perfect marriage of form and function. One area that’s getting special attention is the bathtub-shower. Frameless shower doors are turning heads and changing the look of contemporary bathrooms. They’re bright and sophisticated, and they make your bathroom appear more spacious than it actually is.

One of the advantages of a wet room, is the ease of cleaning. Tiles are much easier to clean than dealing with a shower cubicle. Your wet room doesn’t have to be tiled to the ceiling. It can be tiled up to where water may splash. The rest can be painted to the ceiling. For example if someone in your family is 6′ tall. The tiles will need to be above this level as water may splash above when hair is being washed for example. The wall tiles can be smooth but I would definitely recommend textured tiles on the floor.

Mask away: I had decided to use spray primer where possible (everywhere but the vinyl wallboard which I felt was too close to too many of the other non-paint surfaces such as the ceiling and windows. For masking tape I like the green Frog Tape. More expensive but worth it in my experience. I also used plastic and cloth drop cloths over the rug and seating and paper to cover windows and other elements. This took about another 2 hours.

At Lincorp, our bathroom remodeling contractors will reconfigure floor plans, move walls, fixtures and utilities, to increase floor area and storage space. A bathroom remodeling project is also the perfect chance to upgrade the plumbing systems, fix weak water pressure, or replace leaky faucets. Heat, moisture, and heavy use make the bathroom especially vulnerable to deterioration and structural damage, high-quality materials and exacting craftsmanship are imperative.

The main bath of our 1940s, lath-and-plaster home has several problems, only one of which is storage. The plumbing is stacked with the downstairs bathroom, and eventually, we will have to do a full gut and re-build. The main bath is only used as a guest bathroom right now. We use the downstairs bathroom – the one with the shower – for our bathroom, so we decided to keep the fixture placement until we are ready to renovate the basement.Read More

Over the weekend we put the finishing touches on our master bath remodel and are officially done! We are so happy with the results. It’s not perfect – we aren’t professionals, but it’s pretty darn good and much better than we ever imagined.

Unlike many home improvement providers, our bathroom remodel options are not limited to any specific product brands. Katlia Construction is happy to install bathroom fixtures from whichever manufacturer the customer prefers. I am so very impressed with your go-to guy for removing that old vanity top and not a bit of damage to that large sheet of mirror. He is worth every penny!!! My $88 sink and cabinet with a faucet I picked up at 40% off retail cost. The toilet was also on sale for 40% off. I just love love love this bathroom! So beautiful! I’d have a hard time running in and out of there quickly, looks like a nice place to linger.

To save money, you want to consider making the changes that have the greatest impact first – the things that will get the most bang for your buck. Things like paint, flooring, lighting, and arrangement and existence of appliances and furniture. A fresh coat of paint can quickly and economically update, brighten and enhance a home. This is my first instructable so my pictures were vertical and horizontal. I didn’t realize they needed to be all the same so some of them don’t show well with the formatting.

It is a good idea to mist your bathroom plants with water to help clean their pores. Plants in bathrooms often get clogged pores because they are exposed to powdered and aerosol products. Why You Should D.I.Y. (Do It Yourself) (2)

With the present state of the economy, many homeowners are deciding to remodel their homes instead of buying a new one. Nowhere is this more evident than in the new kitchen and bathroom designs. Although these rooms were often overlooked, they’re now making up for it with all kinds of the latest trends. If you’re planning a luxury bathroom remodel, below are some of the most popular ideas. For more great ideas on luxury bathrooms, check out Plumbing Point dot com.

It is important to consider hiring a remodeling contractor who has a sub contracting relationship with all the necessary experts. Mark maintains a great circle of support people around him that allows him to complete your kitchen makeovers, room remodels, and home additions or home renovations in a timely, efficient and quality manner. Excellent lens! I love the ideas you’ve presented. I’m one who wishes there was only one shade of green, blue, yellow, etc as I hate picking colors! Blessed. Really well done! Kitchens are such an integral part of our homes that a simple redesign can make a huge difference in feel and mood. Thanks for a great post.

Use slipcovers. If you have old sofas and couches that you are getting bored with, think about simply buying a slipcover to cover them with. Slipcovers come in all designs and colors, so you are sure to find one that suits the decor in your home. Make sure to wash the slipcover regularly. Really beautiful – and as someone else said, timeless. Love that PB console sink – wish we had the room. Lovely job.

The next step was is to refinish the kitchen cabinets. Now you could have the cabinets professionally refaced. Since I was going the rout of frugality, I opted to paint my cabinets and replace all the cabinet nobs and drawer pulls with all new hardware. Take the stress of poor communication out of the equation and make sure you pick a company that can provide consistent and reliable communication and labor.

The original plan was to buy new bedding with super soft sheets. After the bedding was pick out the paint colors were based on the bedding. So far so good. Right? When we got that done we realized that the paint scheme would need done in stages. Not a big deal; paint away. You might also consider covering one wall in mirror tiles or with a large mirror. This will provide the illusion of a much larger room.Read More

We gutted the entire space except for the tub which was in perfect condition and replaced the boring, square beige tiles with large format tiles of a subtle, threaded pattern. A decorative, highly textured band of stainless steel, stone, and glass runs through the shower and defines the counter of the new dark vanity which is now in scale with the room. New sconces in matte opal glass are twined with ribbons of forged iron. Walls are in a chic hue called Thunder Grey.

After having a more traditional pull-behind camper, we really enjoyed the ease of use with this all-in-one RV. Just pull into a campground, plug in and you’re ready to play. No setup, leveling jacks or difficult backup driving needed. vespawoolf , Thank you it is very nice that he is handy. My sister complains all the time that her husband isn’t handy. Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving a comment. Glad I found this article. I am starting a bathroom remodel in September and am glad I found out about the DensGard. Thanks for shring.

I’ve recently thought about redoing my own bathroom. My house was built in 1900 and I have one very small bathroom. Thanks to an unfortunate paint color choice, the walls look as if they were hosed down with Pepto Bismal. In other words, it really needs some work and repainting is number one on my list. VeronicaFarkas and Stephhicks 68 I have added photos to my how to be your own home handyman hub at your advice.

It is important to avoid vinyl tiles at all costs. Although they may be economical at the time, they will eventually come up and peel off, requiring replacement after a few years. Vinyl is simply not made for the bathroom. Thanks so very much, vocal coach – writing the HubNuggets round-up is always great fun! I wish I could enjoy the renos, too, but I’m no longer in the little house. You can do a lot with fresh paint, baskets, and some creative shelving, but that can be hard in a rental. The angled, corner shelf had plenty of room for a new-style vessel sink, and with no vanity cupboard underneath, lent an airy, fresh feel to the room.

As you enjoy your new kitchen or bath, we will enjoy knowing that we have another satisfied customer. At Reno Renovators, customer satisfaction is more than just another set of buzzwords – it’s what our business is based upon. Fasten cement board with special, coated cement-board screws spaced 6 in. on butt joints and every 8 in. in the middle of sheets.Read More

Years earlier, I completed a real estate licensing course and took a couple of classes in real estate investing, I felt confident about venturing into the lucrative real estate dream. My goal was to purchase and fix up a small house in need of a few cosmetic improvements that I could do myself and resell it for a house I chose turned out to be more of a challenge than I ever imagined.

My so lives in the middle floor of a three story condo building. A few weeks ago, the bathtub drain in the unit above his condo broke and water flowed down the inside of the walls soaking the drywall and destroyed two of the three walls in his tub/ shower unit. I need to estimate the cost of repair in order to make a claim. I have already torn all the walls down to the studs and had a tub surround installed.
