This is the first in a short series of videos showing how to remodel a bathroom. This video shows how to remove everything from the bathroom (excluding the tub), to get ready for new flooring. Subsequent videos show how to install vinyl tiles with grout and how to install beadboard and a new faucet.

Some wonderful dark bathroom wall colors which work well with white or light fixtures are chocolate, black, deep purple, navy blue, hunter green, burgundy, crimson, and terracotta. Light colored or white accessories and towels will pop and look very sharp against the dark walls, or you can use contrasting or toning dark colors for a more subtle effect.

Follow Fig. B, for the new drain/vent plan. The new shower drain is vented separately into the main stack (Photos 10, 12 and 13). Most bathrooms have the main stack positioned directly behind the toilet. The wall-mounted toilet shown here cannot be positioned directly behind the stack because there’s not room for the necessary elbows. If your stack is more than 12 in. to the side of the existing toilet, you can keep the same location for the wall-hung toilet. But if it’s directly behind it, you’ll need to swap the sink and toilet locations like we did.

First, I can’t believe how amazingly beautiful you managed to make that space look spending only $7,000. If I was given that same space and budget, I’m not sure I could deliver a COMPLETE and functioning bathroom at all, let alone one that looks like I (easily) spent $25,000 (which, btw, is the minimum amount that anyone who knows what good stuff costs would guess your bath to have cost). So, my hat’s off to you for pulling this off!

Showerheads, toilets, and faucets have all become more water-efficient in recent years, thanks to the Environmental Protection Agency’s voluntary WaterSense program, which labels products that are 20 percent more efficient than federal standards. Our tests have found many WaterSense winners, including low-flow showerheads that deliver a satisfying pulse while meeting the flow rate of 2.5 gallons per minute. You can even have a rain showerhead these days that’s low-flow,” says Petrie.… Read More

I am moving soon, and look forward to decorating the bathroom. I had an apartment in Boston over a year ago that I made look real pretty, and I intend on doing the same when I move. I have some beachy accessories and plaques as a start, and can gradually shop for others to add to it. After that, I’d love to upcycle some old wood or metal to create shelving above the toilet and next to the sink. The plumbing towel racks are also definitely going in.

Nothing can add new functionality to a bathroom like new toilet , especially if your current setup features an outdated or inefficient model. While it may be tempting, changing the location of the toilet can incur more expense than it’s worth since it would take a significant amount of time and effort to plumb new sewer drain lines. Hello skye2day, Well, no. I’m not familiar with Ty. This was not a dream home, just a fixer-upper that I worked on for a couple of years. Mostly, I hired out the big work and did what I could like paint and clean and the yard work.

In the basement is an old cistern It was used to hold rainwater which was collected as it flowed from the roof through gutters and downspouts. We still have a trap door in the floor where a bucket could be lowered for ”fetchin’ a pail of water for warshin”. It is now just an empty concrete lined hole with a portion of the wall missing. Designing a room in your home that is practical and stylish is deceptively difficult if it’s not what you do for a living; so to have photographs to use as references along the way can really help. Toilet remodels are expensive, so be sure you spend wisely. Take an objective have a look at your price range and take a sensible method about what you’ll be able to afford. Spend money on top quality workmanship and prime quality supplies. Do not skimp on objects like the faucet, sink or bathroom, for example, because this is a highly utilized space and also you want issues that are going to hold up. Least expensive is not always greatest.

Attaching the new faucet wasn’t even that bad. I simply turned off the water, disconnected the water strains from the wall, loosened the goose neck and then eliminated the entire sink from the highest of the self-importance. This made it very simple to connect the brand new fixture and attain these crazy nuts at the again. Then I simply dropped the sink back in, and reattached the drain and water strains. You will have some plumbers putty for seating the sink again to the bottom, and some plumbers tape for preserving the drain pipe from leaking on the joint. I have not had a single leak in this rest room.

We also have varied lights on different switches. Our fan now has a light-weight that can be utilized as a nightlight if wanted, and all lights are on a dimmer switch so when I’m stumbling round and cranky manner too early in the morning and might’t stand full mild, I can persuade myself to activate a light-weight – very dimly – as an alternative of stumbling at nighttime and hoping I don’t break any bones.

Tear out the present piping (Photographs 5 and 6). Then frame the 2×6 partitions that will include the brand new plumbing and the opposite end of the shower base (Pictures 8, 9 and 14). It’s best to nail the underside plate to the ground and the top plate to the ceiling, then fill within the studs one at a time by toenailing them in on the prime and bottom. Stack the studs directly in front of the outdated ones wherever attainable. Space the studs within the heart of the shower about 12 in. apart to leave room for the shower valve and showerhead. The studs behind the bathroom should be spaced exactly 19-3/4 in. aside for securing this rest room chair service (Photos 8 and 15).Read More

Here is the original mold damage. (Barf.) Luckily, it’s all been remedied and rebuilt. The whole space is now framed out with new plumbing and electrical lines.

Most kitchen designs are lacking in storage – and especially in usable and convenient storage. Take your storage options up a notch and add a section for more drawers. Just one thing to keep in mind… open the package and check your mirror before leaving the store. We had to exchange this one because the first one came with a chip. This is the second time that’s happened to me with a Home Depot mirror.

I really debated whether or not to paint the pine planked ceiling. I actually like the look of the raw pine, but it didn’t match the other wood in the house, so I decided to go with my gut and paint it white. And I’m so happy I did. There’s nothing like white to brighten and make a room appear bigger than it is. My hubs was not about to tear out our beautiful sheetrock, so I was left to find a tub that would have to fit.

Captain Chair Updates- The seats, although comfortable had a lot of wear. I would have to figure out the options; seat covers, slipcovers or new seats? This turned out more challenging than I anticipated. I am mostly curious about the way colors make you feel. I love dark tones, and the dark blue bahtroom gives me a feel of quiet and peaceful time alone… Angel Blessed!

The old mirror was re-silvered and the old, original hardware refurbished, and the floor was touched up and buffed to remove any signs of wear or damage form the remodeling. Tub surrounds are a great way to improve the visual appeal of your bathroom. Many times, the bathtub itself is fine – it’s the surrounding tile that makes it appear old and dated. A beautiful new tub surround can breathe new life into an old bathtub!Read More

Home Improvement I Love Bathroom Cabinets

Bathrooms are no longer just an afterthought for modern homeowners. Today’s bathrooms are often beautiful, with user-friendly sinks, bathtubs, and showers. Outdated and obsolete bathroom fixtures are being replaced with chic and efficient new designs, making for the perfect marriage of form and function. One area that’s getting special attention is the bathtub-shower. Frameless shower doors are turning heads and changing the look of contemporary bathrooms. They’re bright and sophisticated, and they make your bathroom appear more spacious than it actually is.

One of the advantages of a wet room, is the ease of cleaning. Tiles are much easier to clean than dealing with a shower cubicle. Your wet room doesn’t have to be tiled to the ceiling. It can be tiled up to where water may splash. The rest can be painted to the ceiling. For example if someone in your family is 6′ tall. The tiles will need to be above this level as water may splash above when hair is being washed for example. The wall tiles can be smooth but I would definitely recommend textured tiles on the floor.

Mask away: I had decided to use spray primer where possible (everywhere but the vinyl wallboard which I felt was too close to too many of the other non-paint surfaces such as the ceiling and windows. For masking tape I like the green Frog Tape. More expensive but worth it in my experience. I also used plastic and cloth drop cloths over the rug and seating and paper to cover windows and other elements. This took about another 2 hours.

At Lincorp, our bathroom remodeling contractors will reconfigure floor plans, move walls, fixtures and utilities, to increase floor area and storage space. A bathroom remodeling project is also the perfect chance to upgrade the plumbing systems, fix weak water pressure, or replace leaky faucets. Heat, moisture, and heavy use make the bathroom especially vulnerable to deterioration and structural damage, high-quality materials and exacting craftsmanship are imperative.

The main bath of our 1940s, lath-and-plaster home has several problems, only one of which is storage. The plumbing is stacked with the downstairs bathroom, and eventually, we will have to do a full gut and re-build. The main bath is only used as a guest bathroom right now. We use the downstairs bathroom – the one with the shower – for our bathroom, so we decided to keep the fixture placement until we are ready to renovate the basement.Read More
